6-25-2011-- It was a first, an all-star game between Idaho's ICFL (Idaho Contact Football League) and Oregon's NNFL. The ICFL has been around since 1999 and the NNFL since 2001. The leagues decided to play an annual all-star game starting this year in Corvallis and next year in Idaho with the game rotating between the leagues each season. The NNFL opened the scoring in the game with a field goal after several mistakes their first possesions. The ICFL responded with a touchdown and held a 7-3 lead throughout most of the first half until the NNFL managed to break the goal line and score with seconds remaining before the break to take a 10-7 lead. In the second half the NNFL would begin to pull away scoring three touchdowns, including one with under a minute left in the game, to take a commanding 31-7 lead. But the ICFL played their final series with great pride and were able to get to the NNFL 40 yard line where their kicker was able to make an amazing 50 yard field goal as time expired bringing cheers from both benches as the game concluded. Pictures from the game are available here and pictures from the post game competitions and a group team picture will be posted soon. 6-18-2011-- In perhaps the most exciting Championship game in the eleven year history of the NNFL the South Valley Vandals won their third consecutive title by beating the Benton Bulldawgs 34-28 in double overtime on June 18th. The Vandals started with a recovery of a fumble on the opening kickoff and drove the short field to score. Taking advantage of some more Bulldawg miscues the Vandals extended their lead before Benton would score. The teams exchanged scores leading to a Vandal 28-14 halftime lead in their fourth straight Finals appearance. Benton, however wasn't about to give up and their defense was able to hold South Valley scoreless in the second half while the Bulldawg offense got on track and was able to knot the score at 28-28 at the end of regulation. The teams would finish the first overtime scoreless as the Bulldawgs missed a long field goal on the final down of their series. Benton would get the ball first in the second overtime but had a turnover and the Vandals were able to connect on a quick pass for the winning score. Pictures from the game are available here! 6-18-2011-- After a late start due to a lacrosse match before the game the Chargers and Sharks took the field to play for the 3rd place trophy. The teams traded early touchdowns until the Sharks grabbed a 20-8 halftime lead. Both teams scored one touchdown each in the second half but niether were able to convert the extra point thus giving Power Valley the win and the 3rd placew trophy. Tayt Tolman was awarded the MVP of the game. Pictures from the contest are available here. Photos from the Chapionship will be posted soon. NNFL TO FACE ICFL 6-9-2011-- I just discovered today that the NNFL All-Stars will face a team from Idaho's 8-man ICFL in an All-Star game to be played in Corvallis on June 25th. The NNFL is celebrating its 11th season and the ICFL (Idaho Contact Football League) is celebrating its 13th season. More on this as it becomes available, but the FAN PAGE is planning on attending and photographing the game. GOOD LUCK NNFL! SOUTH VALLEY SHUTOUTS BLACKHAWKS 6-4-2011-- Pictures from Blackhawks vs Vandals available here! VANDALS DEFEAT CHARGERS! 5-21-2011-- Pictures from Chargers vs Vandals 5-21-2011 available here! 5-7-2011-- Arriving at halftime I found the Sharks leading 7-0 at the break. Power Valley would add two more scores to complete a 21-0 shutout of the Capital Chargers at Corvallis High School last Saturday. Tayt Tolman was the workhorse for the Sharks playing quarterback, defense and even kicker for his team. Jake Solhberg added a touchdown in the second half, carrying a few Charger players with him to the goalline. Despite the the dominance of the Sharks the Chargers continued to work hard and were able to break a few big gains on offense but just couldn't string them together close enough to mount a scoring drive. In the other game Saturday the South Valley Vandals defeated the Benton Bulldawgs 38-35 in the Bulldawgs second exciting game in two weeks after their victory over the Sharks last week. Power Valley now sits alone in first place at 4-1 followed by Benton and South Valley at 3-2 and the Chargers at 2-3 and the Blackhawks winless at 0-4. Next week features the Chargers versus the Blackhawks and the Vandals and Sharks going head to head. Pictures from the Sharks vs Chargers game are available here! FINALLY SOME 2011 PICTURES; SHARKS, BULLDAWGS WIN! 4-24-11 (Happy Easter to all!)-- Finally temporarily relieved of parental duties I was finally able to make it up to Corvallis for some NNFL action and wasn't dissappointed! Despite the 56-6 score the Sharks versus Blackhawks game was entertaining. The Sharks showed why they are a contender for this year's title, playing solidly in all aspects of the game. And despite the lopsided score the Blackhawks never gave up and showed a lot of class playing hard all 60 minutes even though the contest was pretty much decided by halftime! Pictures from the Sharks vs Blackhawks are available here! I only caught the first half of the second game between the Chargers and Bulldawgs. What I witnessed was a close, hard fought game between two competative teams. I see Benton later pulled away for a 34-14 victory but while I was there it was only a touchdown difference and both offenses had moved the ball pretty well. Pictures from the Chargers vs Bulldawgs are available here! It is my hope to catch the first game of the double header the next few weeks. Thanks to everyone that said hello to me yesterday it sure felt good to be back taking photographs of the NATIONAL NINEMAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE!
