ALL-STAR GAME PICS AVAILABLE
Pictures available here! Well I missed one exciting third place game. Power Valley downed Polk 13-12. I was told the Pioneers started with only seven players then two more arrived so they played the entire game with the minimum nine men. To play a very good Shark team and keep it close with that roster is impressive. I apologize that I couldn't attend that game due to family commitments. And congratulations to the Sharks for their victory. However, I was able to attend the final and for at least one half it was quite a ball game. The Copperheads showed they deserved to be there scoring on the first play against an experienced Vandals team. Unfortunetly their scoring would stop there. South Valley would take a 12-6 half-time lead and score 34 consecutive points before a late touchdown for the Copperheads made the final 34-12. They say three is a charm and it was the third team that Head Coach Brandon Ferguson led to the Championship. Twice before losing to the Polk Pioneers before capturing this years League Title. Pictures from the Championship are available here! 6-13-2009-- The Mill Creek Copperheads were the clear underdog to the Power Valley Sharks but no one told them Saturday as they upset the Sharks 12-6 in the first semi-final game at South Eugene High School. The Copperheads scored first and converted the 2 point conversion to go up 8-0. Power Valley struck back to narrow the score to 8-6 but the Copperheads blocked the extra point and returned it down the field for 2 points to take a 10-6 half-time lead. Power Valley moved the ball well but seemed to stall in the red zone. Both teams had some key turnovers and neither offense got a second half touchdown. The Copperheads got a late safety which ended a Shark thought of a comeback and the final tally was 12-6 as mentioned above. Pictures from the game are available here. The score was 28-7 at half-time and South Valley added 22 more points for a lopsided 50-7 victory to reach the Championship for the second consecutive year and the third time in four years. The Polk players played with a lot of heart considering their disadvantage and Vandal players were quick to compliment them for playing hard all 60 minutes after the game. Pictures from this game are available here.
PLAYOFFS SET 6-6-2009-- The 2009 NNFL Playoff pairings are set. The Mill Creek Copperheads won a tie breaker with Benton and Polk and earned a number 3 seed in the playoffs, they also downed the Capital Chargers 40-20 on Saturday. I arrived with a little over 3 minutes left and watched a 24-20 lead extend to the final margin. Pictures are available here! In the other NNFL game the number one seed South Valley Vandals downed a shorthanded Benton team 68-8. The Bulldawgs scored first and had some decent drives after that but had several turnovers in this lopsided loss. Pictures from that game are available here. So the playoff match ups are as follows, the Vandals will host the Pioneers at 5:30 pm and the Sharks will host the Copperheads in the opener at 3:00pm with both games being played at South Eugene High School this Saturday. 5-30-2009-- Power Valley controlled the ball with an impressive eight minute drive to start the game taking a 7-0 lead. The Vandals would respond with a drive of their own on their first possession as well, taking a brief 8-7 lead. The Sharks would score on their next possession jumping in front 13-8, however, South Valley would block the extra point and return it for 2 points to only be down 13-10. The Vandals had the ball late in the first half but the Sharks defense held with about a minute and a half left in the half then Power Valley got the ball with around 35.6 seconds left only to turn it over and with 6 seconds left in the half the Vandals scored on a QB run and converted the 2 point extra point for a 18-13 half-time lead. Both teams would mount drives in the second half but neither landed in the end zone. Power Valley got close with less than a minute to play but was stopped on fourth down and the Vandals held on to win by the 18-13 margin. Pictures from this great match up are available here! In other NNFL Action Mill Creek downed Capital 26-20 to keep their playoff hopes alive while Polk shutout the Gladiators 34-0. VANDALS SET UP BIG GAME WITH SHARKS NEXT WEEK ! 5-25-2009-- Pictures from Gladiators vs Vandals here, sorry no write up! TWO CLOSE GAMES IN CORVALLIS ! 5-11-2009 -- The Polk Pioneers pulled out a big 14-8 win over the Capital Chargers in Corvallis Saturday. Even more impressive was the fact that Polk did it with only 11 players suited up. The Chargers had two very big drives in the first half but both times fumbled the ball inside the 5 yard line and that would haunt them. Polk would then score two touchdowns before the Chargers scored late in the game. Pictures from that contest are available here. The second game of the double header featured the Mill Creek Copperheads at the Benton Bulldawgs. Mill Creek scored a TD their first play from scrimmage and so did the Bulldawgs so the score was 6-6 less than two minutes into the game. The teams would trade scores throughout the first half. The second half was different, only Benton would get any points after being down 26-20 at halftime and those would come late for the hard fought victory in this exciting game. Pictures from this contest are available here. In the other NNFL game Saturday the Power Valley Sharks downed the Emerald Valley Gladiators 41-0. BULLDAWGS, SHARKS, VANDALS WIN ! 5-3-2009 --Pictures from Power Valley's 33-0 win are available here. And pictures from Benton's 26-2 win are available here. In other action at South Eugene South Valley defeated Polk 32-20. MORE PICTURES SOON ! 4-22-2009 -- I am covering the Oregon Outlaws April 18th and 25th then will be devoting the rest of the season to the NNFL. I will be attending games starting May 2nd. Thanks for visiting. 4-12-2009 -- Pictures from this years NNFL Jamboree are now posted and available by clicking here. It was great to see everyone after what seemed like a long off season. This will be my eighth year photographing the league. The teams and players have provided me with much enjoyment through their efforts. Also, this season, I have a new professional quality camera and will be selling game DVD's or 8x10s. More info on that later. Thanks for visiting and I look forward to a very exciting 2009 season. 6-15-2008--For the first time in NNFL history a 3rd place game was played. The Power Valley Sharks hosted the Benton Bulldawgs in a great one! The 6-2 Sharks won this one but not without a scare from a 4-4 Benton team (Sharks finish 7-2 and Bulldawgs 4-5). Benton went ahead 8-0 early in the first half with Power Valley marching right back and tying the score. The Sharks would score another TD to take a 15-8 lead but the Bulldawgs would score a big touchdown right before halftime to take a 16-15 lead at the break. The Sharks would appear to have the game in hand during the second half twice taking a 2 touchdown lead, however the Bulldawgs played a tremendous game against a very good Sharks squad and had an opportunity in the last few minutes to win the game while being down 35-30. But the Shark defense held when it had too and Power Valley won the game. Pictures from the 3rd Place game are here! The teams would essentially trade touchdowns the second half with Polk maintaining their lead but South Valley responding every time keeping the Pioneers from celebrating early. This contest was much more exciting than the final score might indicate because the Vandals kept battling back despite the early deficit. Ivan McCrae was declared the player of the game but he shared that honor with Chris Hussey after the contest. Pictures from the Championship are here! Pictures from Duane Hussey are available here! The All-Star game will be played June 21st and I expect to be there for photos. Thanks for visiting!
