6-15-2008--For the first time in NNFL history a 3rd place game was played. The Power Valley Sharks hosted the Benton Bulldawgs in a great one! The 6-2 Sharks won this one but not without a scare from a 4-4 Benton team (Sharks finish 7-2 and Bulldawgs 4-5). Benton went ahead 8-0 early in the first half with Power Valley marching right back and tying the score. The Sharks would score another TD to take a 15-8 lead but the Bulldawgs would score a big touchdown right before hahlftime to take a 16-15 lead at the break. The Sharks would appear to have the game in hand during the second half twice taking a 2 touchdown lead, however the Bulldawgs played a tremendous game against a very good Sharks squad and had an opportunity in the last few minutes to win the game while being down 35-30. But the Shark defense held when it had too and Power Valley won the game. Pictures from the 3rd Place game are here! The teams would essentially trade touchdowns the second half with Polk maintaining their lead but South Valley responding everytime keeping the Pioneers from celebrating early. This contest was much more exciting than the final score might indicate because the Vandals kept battling back despite the early deficit. Ivan Mcrae was declared the player of the game but he shared that honor with Chris Hussey after the contest. Pictures from the Championship are here! Pictures from Duane Hussey are available here! The All-Star game will be played June 21st and I expect to be there for photos. Thanks for visiting! 6-1-2008-- The 2008 NNFL playoffs began yesterday with a double header at South Eugene High School. In the first game the Polk Pioneers won their rematch with the Power Valley Sharks by a score of 36-28. Polk led 22-15 at halftime and held on for the final margin. Power Valley had defeated the Pioneers 41-0 in last years playoffs and 42-32 earlier this year. Pictures from the game are available here. Pictures from Duane Hussey are available here! In the second game South Valley downed a tough Benton team 39-6. South Valley will make their first appearance in the finals since changing their name from Steel two years ago. However it will be their second appearance in the championship having lost 52-19 in 2006 to the same Polk Pioneers they will be playing next Saturday. It will be Polk's third championship appearnce. Pictures from the second game are available here! PLAYOFF TEAMS DETERMINED 5-21-2008-- The 2008 NNFL regular season concluded last week. Unfortunetly I couldn't attend any games but Duane Hussey covered the Pioneers 44-14 victory over the Copperheads and his pictures are available here! In other games the Vandals downed the Gladiators 59-10, the Bulldawgs beat the Chargers 35-22 and the Sharks got by the Loggers 9-8. Next week the Sharks will play the Pioneers in a rematch of last years playoffs and in the second game the Bulldawgs will take on the Vandals. Both games are scheduled for South Eugene High School with the first game scheduled for 5:00 pm and the second set for 7:30 pm. It is my intention to cover both games. Good luck to the four playoff teams. 5-11-2008-- I attended two NNFL games this weekend starting off at Sprague High School watching the Copperheads and Chargers. The game was very exciting with the Copperheads leading 30-28 at halftime. The Charger defense finally came through later in the second half and their offense was able to gain a lead and hold on for a 48-38 win. Pictures from that game are available here! Again my apologies for not getting up an article last week, but my schedule just didn't allow me enough time. Also, I probably won't be able to attend any games next weekend but should be at the playoff games. In other NNFL action the Loggers got a 14-0 lead against the Vandals but were unable to hold on and ended up losing 34-20. The Power Valley Sharks defeated the Gladiators 35-0. PICTURES FROM 5-3-2008 Vandals vs Chargers Pioneers vs Sharks Pioneers vs Sharks (pictures by Duane Hussey) Scores: Sharks 42, Pioneers 32 Gladiators 8, Copperheads 6 Loggers 12, Bulldawgs 6 Vandals 52, Chargers 14 Sorry no articles from this week, just too busy but enjoy the pictures. 4-26-08-- It was only a few weeks ago that the Power Valley Sharks squeeked by the South Valley Vandals 13 to 12! This time the Vandals led 13-0 at half-time only to see their lead fall before regulation would end. The Sharks scored 20 second half points to tie the game at 20 all at the end of regulation. Fortunetly for the Vandals they would score the only points in overtime to win by 26-20 margin. The win creates a deadlock between the two teams for first place in the McKenzie Division. Pictures from this game can be seen here! In other NNFL action this weekend Polk remained unbeaten by downing the Capital Chargers 50-14, in the other game played at Corvallis High School the Benton Bulldawgs downed the Copperheads 28-14 and the East Linn Loggers won their rematch with the Gladiators 14-0. Also, if you click on a picture link below for a past season and nothing comes up please try again in a day or so. I am in the process of moving older pictures to a different server and there is a lag time between the time I post the pictures there and post them here or you can try my new server at PBase. 4-19-08-- Sorry it took so long to get this brief report up. I attended the South Valley Vandals versus the Gladiators game last week. Quite the game which witnessed sunshine, rain, and snow! Both teams fumbled the ball a lot because of the weather conditions, however only the Vandals seemed to capitalize on turnovers. The Vandals led 26-0 at half and their defense seemed to stop the Gladiators at will. The Gladiator defense played very well in the second half, stopping South Valley deep in their territory after some turnovers and only allowing one more score for the Vandals, but their offense just couldn't string enough good plays together to mount a scoring drive. Despite the 34-0 score and the elements the game was entertaining. Pictures from the contest are available here! In other NNFL action the Benton Bulldawgs downed the Capital Chargers 28-14, Power Valley shutout East Linn 26-0 and Polk downed the Copperheads 16-0 in another shutout. Duane Hussey got some GREAT shots from the Copperheads vs Pioneers contest and they are available here! I will be at the Sharks vs Vandals matchup in Crovallis but can't stay for the second game and I suspect Duane will be at the Pioneers vs Chargers game. Thanks for visiting. 4-13-08-- I was unable to attend any games this week, however Duane Hussey is again helping me get photos of NNFL action this year. He attended the Pioneer vs Bulldawg game and his photos are available here. I should be attending atleast one and perhaps two NNFL games on April 19th. In other games on the 12th the Vandals beat the Loggers 40-8, the Chargers beat the Copperheads 32-28 and the Sharks downed the Gladiators 31-6. 4-6-08-- The lights almost went out on the two NNFL teams playing at South Eugene last night. It took four overtimes for the Gladiators to complete their comback win over a tough Loggers squad 32-26. East Linn got the ball first and was mounting a good drive that relied on the run. However, after a few first downs the Logger QB threw the first of a couple costly interceptions, this one being returned a long ways for a touchdown giving the Gladiators a 6-0 lead after a failed conversion attempt. The Loggers would come right back however, marching down the field on successful running plays to take an 8-6 lead. East Linn would add one more score before half to make it 14-6 at the break. The Logger defense shutout the Gladiator offense until late in the game, after an interception by the Gladiators was returned to the 15. The Gladiators scored their first offensive touchdown and had a successful two point conversion to force the game into overtime with a 14-14 tie at the end of regulation. Both teams scored on their first two possesions of the overtimes, making the score 26-26. Both teams also turned the ball over in the third overtime forcing the fourth extra period. The Gladiators were able to take a 32-26 lead in the fourth then a big illegal block penalty against the Loggers on offense put East Linn way back and out of range of a tie thus giving the Gladiators the 32-26 win. Pictures from the game are available here! In other NNFL action yesterday the Benton Bulldawgs shutout the Copperheads 12-0, the Polk Pioneers downed the Capital Chargers 36-20 and the Power Valley Sharks won a squeker over the South Valley Vandals 13-12.
2008 SEASON STARTS THIS WEEKEND
4-2-2008-- Here it is, time to play spring football again. I will be attending the Loggers vs Gladiators game at South Eugene Saturday night and should have pictures posted by Monday night at the latest. If it seems it is taking me longer to get picturtes posted this season it is because I have a new, beautiful baby daughter named Makayla Ann who was born December 5th! Best of luck to all the teams this year and I am really looking forward to covering the 2008 season.
